EMDR Intensives for Utah and Idaho Residents
An EMDR intensive is to healing as gastric bypass surgery is to weight loss. It may happen in the beginning or middle of your journey. It won't fix everything. But it will give you a huge jumpstart and help all the work that happens after fall into place. An EMDR intensive is a powerful treatment that yields fast results. They usually last about three hours and most people do one to three intensives. You'll come in with a goal/issue and we'll process everything we can related to that issue in a three hour session. Most people see results immediately and report continued growth and processing after their intensive.
Why do an EMDR Intensive?
1. A time limited goal: This is a popular option for individuals with a fear of flying who now need to leave the country or women with past traumatic births who have found they are pregnant again.
2. Desire for fast results: Trauma and OCD can both cause a high level of disturbance and pain and some would simply prefer to work through it more quickly.
3. Limited schedule: Some have work or life obligations that don't allow for weekly therapy but do allow for a day off here and there.
4. Other options haven't been successful: Some people have felt unproductive and stalled in therapy for both PTSD and scrupulosity and decide to attempt an EMDR intensive.
Whatever your reason, many studies have shown that 84-90% of individuals no longer experience PTSD symptoms after 3 sessions of EMDR. An EMDR intensive allows you to fit all this into 1 or 2 days and see results quickly.
What Does an EMDR Intensive Look Like?
01
Consult Call
Me and you will have a brief consult call to determine what your goals are and if an EMDR intensive is the right fit for you. An EMDR intensive may not be the right fit for you if you are experiencing strong active suicidality, if you have severe problems with dissociation, and if you are struggling to meet basic needs. If in doubt lets connect and discuss.
02
Intake Session
We will do a standard intake session where I take a bio-psycho-social history. This helps us both explore your background and flesh out a plan for your EMDR intensive. I may assign you some exercises and homework to help you prepare for your intensive.
03
Intensive Day
We will schedule one or two three hour sessions happening on the same or two different days. We jump into processing material using tactile bilateral stimulation and eye movements. We will take as many breaks as you need.
04
Follow Up
About a week after your session we will have a follow up visit. We will evaluate results and determine if further treatment is needed.
